Review of Origins of Shotokan (2013) *****

"What did the Karate that Funakoshi Gichin brought from Okinawa to mainland Japan look like? This Dvd can give you the answer to the above question! Funakoshi sensei practiced a form of Okinawan shorin ryu (AND NOT JAPANESE SHOTOKAN RYU!), so definitely the work by Sean can help you to understand which style of Karate the Master taught in Okinawa. I've also found extremely interesting the section on the typical Okinawan hojo Undo tools, that Funakoshi sensei used to condition the body: this is a practice unfortunately often forgotten in the modern day dojos!" Lorenzo Semeraro - 17th August 2021
